In this class we will read several short stories written by American authors spanning 150 years. Each story will be preceded with biographical information about the author, vocabulary, and a discussion of literary devices used. After reading each story and completing the comprehension questions, we will have a class discussion to review the comprehension questions and exercise critical thinking.
Students will need a three-ring binder in which to keep their stories, vocabulary words, questions, and notes.
Students will spend less than three hours each week reading the assigned story and answering comprehension questions.
Parents and students should be aware, as found in most literature, some selections have cases of scandal, murder, and adultery. These acts are not elaborated upon, only mentioned as part of the plot.
